Inside Spaces II, 2024

Smoke fired stoneware ceramic forms (various sizes)

'Inside Spaces’ consists of four looping, tubular forms; their heavy curves suggest motion that has been suddenly arrested. The extruded tubes have been manipulated by hand, each piece opening into a dark interior that remains partially concealed, inviting the viewer to imagine the unseen systems within. The surfaces bear the marks of atmospheric firing: smoke, ash, and heat; imprinting a mottled skin of greys, whites, and charred browns. These traces evoke both geological time and bodily vulnerability, as if the forms have been weathered, handled, and transformed by forces beyond their control. Both organic and industrial, the sculptures evoke roots, intestines, cave formations, and mechanical conduits, inhabiting the in-between spaces where natural, engineered, and subterranean worlds intersect. Their curling forms suggest a shifting play between interior and exterior, enclosure and exposure, solidity and void. ‘Inside Spaces’ invites the viewer to consider the hidden infrastructures, physical, emotional, environmental, and cavernous, that surround us, shape us, and remain largely unseen.
