BIOGRAPHY
C. L. Davies is a multidisciplinary British artist whose work spans sculpture, photography, and drawing. Born in Liberia, West Africa in 1979, she is currently based in Bedfordshire. Her practice explores themes of memory, time, and the human experience, often weaving together personal narratives with universal questions. Davies studied Glass Design at Staffordshire University, graduating in 2000, and later completed a Master’s in Fine Art at the University of Hertfordshire. In early 2025, she was awarded an artist bursary from the Freelands Foundation, supporting the development of her skills in glassblowing.

Statement
I am a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, glass, metal, ceramics, and photography. My practice is rooted in an intuitive process, with a primary focus on sculpture and a deep engagement with the human form, memory, and the instinct to collect. I am drawn to simple, organic forms that emerge through making — forms that seek to hold something of the essence of lived experience, personal association, and emotional resonance. Liminal spaces and states — those in-between moments that exist on the edge of the known — are central to my work. I am fascinated by the tension between time and place, and the way these concepts stretch and blur in dreamlike or abandoned environments. For me, liminality is not just a theme but a space of creation: fluid, uncertain, and rich with possibility.

Due to the physical limitations of my body, I often work on a smaller scale, creating hand-held multiples that collectively form larger compositions. This method allows for intimacy and accumulation — each part contributing to a greater whole. I am drawn to the natural tones and inherent qualities of materials. By avoiding bright or artificial colours, I allow the form itself to speak without distraction, encouraging a quiet, tactile dialogue between object and viewer.
